Most of  us experience stress and are unaware of how much of it that we actually hold in.  When exposed to stressful situations, our bodies respond with a fight or flight reaction.  This means that adrenaline is released from the adrenal glands and the pulse races, blood pressure increases, breathing becomes faster and the blood flow to the muscles increases. 
If we do not confront and deal with the situation, we end up remaining in a constant state anxiety; prolonged anxiety will ultimately lead to depression.
